What is VPN?

Virtual Private Network (VPN) establishes secure and encrypted connection to provide online privacy by masking a user's Internet Protocol (IP) address. VPN protects a user's online activities and personal information.

Is VPN required to access Purely Cloud Desktop?

No, VPN is not required. Purely Cloud recommends users to turn off VPN when connecting to Purely Cloud Desktop.

How is data secure without VPN?

Just as VPN securely connects users to an office network remotely, Purely Cloud Desktop serves the same function of encrypting user's data during a remote session via Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) on both desktop application and web browser. SSL is a security protocol that establishes an encrypted link between a server and a user.

Why was Purely Cloud Desktop chosen over a VPN Setup?

Purely Cloud Desktop provides faster connection and simpler steps than a VPN setup. Each layer of VPN connection (i.e. as users work remotely to connect to another desktop through VPN, or as users transfer files from an office to a local computer) adds an additional step that may lead to slower performance in the work environment. Purely Cloud Desktop allows users to directly reach into the virtual environment and work from there rather than transferring and saving files back and forth.
